I have outlined the steps for merging the symbols in amibroker here:

This method can be used only if you are using the old database for fresh updates from another data source.

This method can be used for EOD as well as Intraday data but for intraday the format of data (i.e., tick, 1 minute or 5 minute) should be the same, else data may get corrupted.
